It starts from the last houses of the city (junction of Egnatia and Makedonia streets, below the hotel "Egnatia") and its first part reaches below the Holy Monastery of Apostle Silas on the col of Symbol Mountains. The second surviving section is found immediately
after the junction of the modern Egnatia Odos with a descending course of the slope of the Councilor to the settlement of Stavros Amygdaleonas.
The road is suitable for a short walk in the existing forest. Easy trail between farmhouses and the pine forest, with views of the city and the sea.

ANCIENT
EGNATIA

Almost inside the urban nest of Kavala, at the western end of the city, part of an old cobbled street is preserved, which the local tradition identifies it as the ancient Egnatia Odos. This road is located at the end of Makedonias and Egnatia streets. It starts from the last houses of the city and reaches below the Holy Monastery ofthe Apostle Silas at the saddle of Symbol Mountains, which separates the city from the plain of Philippi. The monastery has been built on the spot where the Apostle Paul of the Nations, headed with Silas and their entourage, stood to rest on their way from Naples to Philippi. We find part of the same road immediately after the junction of the modern Egnatia Odos in a descending course of the slope of the Councilor to the settlement of Stavros Amygdaleonas.

Egnatia Odos was one of the largest military and commercial streets of the ancient world. The axis that connected Rome with its creations in the East. It was built between 146 and 120 BC. from the viceroy of Macedonia Gnaios Egnatios, on the traces of the ancient road that crossed Macedonia and Thrace from east to west. The road is suitable for a short walk in the forest that is in the valley that leads the walker under the new Hospital and from there to the Monastery of St Silas. Easy trail between farmhouses and the pine forest, with views of the city and the sea. Walking this road is a very good opportunity to walk on the footsteps of the Apostle Paul who landed in Neapolis (today's Kavala) and after his first stepping on European soil, walked to Philippi where he founded the first Christian church in Europe.
